Buying a Balloon
Lola bought a balloon at the circus. She gave the clown six coins to pay for it.
What coins could Lola have used to pay for the balloon?
Which of your answers seems a reasonable amount to pay for a balloon?
So we know Lola used coins to pay for the balloon. The only coins we can uses are therefore:5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2.
At the circus, items are often overpriced so the balloon could have cost 6 x $2 = $12
The cheapest she could have paid was 6 x 5c or 30c but we think the clown would have wanted more than this.
I’m betting the clown charged full dollars or dollar amounts and 50c so there’s quite a few possibilities.
It could have been the end of the day too and he was discounting!
