Below is the Term 4 Update with information about what our students will be learning in each year level and specialist area this term.
TERM 4 UPDATE
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
In P.E this term, the students will be active and involved in programs such as Swimming (Years 3 to 6), Interschool Sports on Fridays (Years 5&6) as well as the Life Saving Program at Chelsea Life Saving Club. This program is largely focused on beach games and learning to be safe around water at the beach.
The Junior School (Foundation to Y2) will be mastering the skills of cricket and tennis and as well preparatory activities for athletics.
The Senior school (Years 3 to 6) will be working on aspects of teamwork through class sports such as soccer, netball and basketball as well as learning fitness concepts essential for all sports.
For all year levels we will finish the year in the last week with the Colour FUN RUN and a mini sports class such as T-ball or a game of their choice.
PERFORMING ARTS
In Performing Arts this term, students will be exploring Drama. They’ll be learning about performance techniques, character development, and storytelling, allowing them to express their creativity and build confidence on stage. Additionally, we will be introducing students to elements of Indigenous Australian drama, helping them understand its cultural significance and the power of storytelling in traditional performances.
At the end of the term, we will celebrate with a Christmas Concert where students will showcase their skills by singing and dancing.

ART
Term 4 in the art studio promises to be a lot of fun!
- Foundation, Year 2,3 & 4 will have a focus on animal art
- Year 1 will be creating self-portraits and a weaving project
- Year 2 will also be doing some weaving
- Year 5 will create their own cartoon character
- Year 6 will create their skate deck designs
Mordialloc College will be having their whole school art show on Tuesday 15th October 6.30pm – 8pm. Edithvale Primary School will contribute artwork to the exhibition and many of our students will have work on display.
ROBOTICS
Foundation – Coding Bluebots to a specific location and learning how to use the Kodable iPad app
Year 1 – Welcome to our new robots – Botzees – build with blocks then code with drop and drag.
Year 2 -Scratch Jnr – learning how to use the program/apps features.
Year 3 – More creation time and then the big reveal of our games!
Year 4 – Continue coding Sphero Bolts to drive around town maps.
Year 5 – Exploring conditional coding – “If/then else” using Sphero Bolts and Scratch.
6A – Lego Spike Prime – building and coding with Lego.
6B – Tinkercad – a 3D design program for 3D printing.
FRENCH
Foundation Focus
Basic language exposure and cultural insights.
Year 1 Focus
Pronunciation, rhythm, imitation.
Year 2 Focus
Fine-tune oral skills.
Year 3 Focus
Functional language use and French-English comparisons.
Year 4 Focus
French application in projects and cultural knowledge. (e.g., French food).
Year 6 Focus
Advanced vocabulary, grammar, culminating projects.
SCIENCE
This Term students will be exploring the wonderful world of Biological Sciences through the lens of the classic literary text, Charlotte’s Web.

FOUNDATION
Can you believe it’s already Term 4?
We are absolutely proud of our resilient Foundation students, who are already displaying that they are ready for Year 1! Before then, we have the final term of Foundation to complete. Just a reminder that hats are to be worn during
Term 4. We have a ‘no hat, no play’ policy at EPS.
English
Students have been working hard all year on their reading and they will continue to improve their reading fluency. Students will continue to practice letter formation and sentence structure. Students will be learning about story elements and creating their own stories.
Maths
Students will continue to build upon the mathematical concepts they have learnt this year such as place value, addition and subtraction. We will learn to recognise and name money, state the duration of events, and learn about sharing and grouping.

YEAR 1
Literacy
We will continue to practise phonemic awareness strategies to assist with decoding skills in reading and spelling. We learn about the basic morphology of words such as root words, prefixes and suffixes. We will revisit both fiction and non-fiction texts.
Please continue reading the decodable readers containing your child’s current focus area as well as enjoying a range of stories from the library or your home collection.
Students will consolidate their sentence writing skills, including the correct use of capital letters and full stops. We will continue to provide many opportunities for students to talk and plan before writing in order to develop their oral language skills, which will help them construct their ideas before putting them down on the page.
Maths
Students will be involved in a range of hands-on activities using concrete materials such as number charts, counters, maths games, blocks, bundling sticks and base-ten materials to reinforce learning. They will explore a range of concepts, including division and fractions; and expand their understanding of place value to thousands.
Students will learn how to interpret simple maps and identify key features on these maps. They will use hands-on materials including balance scales to explore different objects and their mass.
Humanities: Kings and Queens
We will be exploring the core knowledge of Kings and Queens. Students will listen to read-alouds about kings and queens and royal families to build their understanding of the responsibilities, lifestyles and customs.
Wellbeing
During Term 4, we will continue to prioritise Wellbeing in our classrooms to support the mental, physical and social wellbeing of our students covering topics such as SunSmart, Cyber Safety, Nutrition and Road safety.
YEAR 3
What a great year we have had so far, and we are looking forward to a fantastic final term together!
Literacy – This term we will have a focus on persuasive texts. Students will learn different persuasive writing techniques that they can use to keep improving their writing.
Maths– Number fluency will remain a focus throughout term 4. We will be continuing to build our knowledge of identifying, ordering and comparing fractions. Students will be exploring topics such as money, 3D shape, and units of measurement.
Humanities – We will begin Term 4 by studying stories from First Nation Australian culture, looking at the lessons and knowledge shared through them. This term students will also be exploring the ancient civilisation of the Indus Valley.
YEAR 5
We are running full steam ahead as we head towards the end of Year 5.
During English lessons, we are continuing our novel study unit on ‘Convict Boy’. Our students have really enjoyed this historical fiction and have continued to build their knowledge on Colonial Australia and the impacts of settlement on First Nations
Australians.
Our focus in Maths continues to centre around building fluency and problem solving in Number, particularly with multiplication, division and working with fractions, decimals and percentages.
Our humanities unit on Early Exploration is winding down and we are excited a about our upcoming unit on Feudal Japan.

YEAR 2
Literacy
We will continue to use phonemic awareness strategies to assist with decoding skills in reading and spelling. We will be revising the digraphs we have learnt this year and be learning about the basic morphology of words such as root words, prefixes and suffixes.
In writing this term we will consolidate our understanding of story elements and persuasive techniques. Students will learn to use speech marks correctly.
Maths
Students will continue to build their knowledge with fast fluency facts. We will continue to learn and revise multiplication facts and will begin to explore fractions. Students will also revise concepts from over the year.
Humanities
Students will learn to represent the location of places and their features on maps, globes, and models, focusing on major geographical divisions in relation to Australia. They will interpret data and information to draw conclusions about the direction and location of various places, using terms such as north, south, near, and far. This skill set will enhance their spatial awareness and deepen their understanding of global
geography.
YEAR 4
It is the final term before our legends hit the Senior School and become leaders and role models for our younger students.
Across most subjects, our focus areas will remain similar from the past three terms, and we will continue to revise and build on this knowledge. During English lessons, we will continue learning new spelling rules and root word meanings and histories and practise reading aloud to improve fluency. Students will focus on persuasive writing, learning the key features of persuasive texts and how to create compelling arguments. They will then explore Victorian England through a novel study of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, deepening their understanding of classic literature. The popular Free Write Friday segment will remain where students are able to work on personal pieces in a variety of genres.
In Maths time, we will keep working with fractions as well as reviewing our knowledge of the four operations and completing investigations using worded questions.
Wellbeing will include lessons on leadership, resilience and
respectful relationships, friendship
and social skills.

YEAR 6
Our final term of Primary School!
What a big term this is and what an amazing journey our students have been on. As we head toward graduation there are lots of extra activities the Year 6’s will be taking part in, so please keep an eye out for notifications and reminders on Compass.
We will keep to our regular routines and learning practices at school, and 60 minutes of weekly homework will continue, with Maths and Reading foci. Please ensure you are supporting your children to complete these activities each week.
Literacy learning will be centred around the Novel Study unit, Numeracy will continue to extend our mathematical skills to prepare for secondary school, and our humanities units will see us venturing into Business and Economics.
